Justice Yahya Afridi was appointed as the Chief Justice of Pakistan starting October 26, 2024. He took the oath as the 30th Chief Justice during a ceremony at the President House in Islamabad, administered by President Asif Ali Zardari. Born on January 23, 1965, in Dera Ismail Khan, Justice Afridi hails from the Adam Khel clan of the Afridi tribe and resides in Babari Banda village, Kohat. His education includes Aitchison College, Government College Lahore, and an MA in Economics from Punjab University. He earned an LLM from Jesus College, University of Cambridge, supported by a Commonwealth Scholarship, and completed further legal studies in London. After gaining experience in both London and Pakistan, he practiced law in Peshawar and served as a lecturer. He became a Supreme Court lawyer in 2004 and was appointed to the Peshawar High Court in 2010. He made history as the first judge from former FATA to become PHC Chief Justice in 2016 before his elevation to the Supreme Court in 2018.
